MATH 231 Text and References
There are several good textbooks on elementary
Linear Algebra. The main text used for the course
is the following:
H. Anton, Elementary Linear Algebra,
8th edition, John Wiley, 2000.
Here are further references that can be used as guides,
supplementary readings, or sources of examples and problems. The last two
books require some mathematical maturity and are highly recommended
to those who intend to continue their education in a mathematics
related field.
G. Strang, Introduction to Linear Algebra, 3rd edition,
Wellesley Cambridge Pr, 2003.
S. Lipschutz and M. Lipson, Schaum's outline of Linear Algebra,
3rd edition, McGraw-Hill, 2000 (a useful problem book).
P. Halmos, Finite dimensional vector spaces, Springer-Verlag,
1974.
K. Hoffman and R. Kunze, Linear Algebra, 2nd edition,
Prentice Hall, 1971.
