MATH 231 Text and References

The main text used for our course is
    D. Poole, Linear Algebra, A Modern Introduction, 4th edition, Cengage Learning, 2014.
The most cost-effective option for many of you is a single-term subscription to WebAssign which also gives you access to the electronic version of the book. Check out the following link :

Textbook + WebAssign

The subscription fee is publicly listed at $111, but as a Queens College student you are eligible for a discounted price of $87.

If you are taking other courses this semester that also use WebAssign, a better option is to get a 4 month subscription to "Cengage Unlimited" which gives you unlimited access to the publisher's entire library of textbooks as well as WebAssign. If you already have a subscription to Cengage Unlimited for your other courses, you won't need to pay a separate fee for this one.

My lectures and Poole's textbook provide enough material for you during this semester. Here are additional optional references that can be used as guides, supplementary readings, or sources of examples and problems: The following books require more mathematical maturity and are highly recommended if you are interested in theoretical aspects and plan to major in pure mathematics:
    K. Hoffman and R. Kunze, Linear Algebra, 2nd edition, Prentice Hall, 1971.
    S. Axler, Linear Algebra done right, 3rd edition, Springer-Verlag, 2015.
    P. Halmos, Finite dimensional vector spaces, Springer-Verlag, 1974.
