MAT 542: Complex Analysis I

Description:
An introduction to classical complex analysis with some emphasis on
the geometric aspects of complex function theory in one variable.
Although the course starts from the foundations, some knowledge of basic
complex analysis will be assumed.

The midterm exam will be on Friday March 26,
from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
It will cover Chapters 1 and 2 of the notes. Its difficulty
will be roughly comparable to the homework problems.

Basic Ground Rules:
- The course grade is based on the following scheme:

- Homework will be posted on the web weekly. Doing homeworks consistently
will be absolutely essential in order to learn the subject.
- You are expected to do a short term project on a topic of your choice.
The idea is to read about a topic that is relevant but not covered in the
course and give a 45 minute presentation in class. I will suggest some
possible topics later on.
