John Charles Burt served as a non-commissioned officer from 1st of August 1941 until 12th of June 1942 in the Air Corps of the Army of the United States. On 13th of June 1942, Burt was commissioned as a second lieutenant by appointment from the President of the United States. He would ultimately attain the rank of first lieutenant.He served in four different unites at Guadalcanal in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. On 28th of September 1943 he was serving near Bougainville Island as a crew member on a B-24 bomber that was to bomb and enemy convoy filled with supplies. During the run he went missing in action and was officially declared dead on 14th of December 1945.Among the many awards and decorations that Burt received were the Purple Heart, the American Defense Service Medal, the WWII Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one Bronze Service Star. He is buried at the Tablets of the Missing at the Manila American Cemetery in Manila, Philippines.
