Welcome to the home page for The Aaron Copland School of Music at
Queens College. Located just minutes from the cultural riches of
Manhattan on a 76-acre, tree-lined campus, the ACSM combines the
advantages of a conservatory with the resources of an outstanding
liberal arts college. Our distinguished faculty include award-
winning composers, eminent performers, leaders in music
education, and scholars whose texts are used nationwide. Our
facilities rank with the best in New York City; and our weekly
concerts and recitals feature faculty, students and guest artists
on an almost daily basis, bringing a true sense of vitality to
the Copland School of Music and to the life of our College.
Among our many outstanding alumni are Marvin Hamlisch, the
Academy Award- and Tony Award-winning composer; Lewis Lockwood
and Claude Palisca, noted musicologists; Reri Grist,
internationally acclaimed soprano; Claire Brook, senior music
editor at W. W. Norton; and Samuel Rhodes, renowned violist and
member of the Juilliard String Quartet. These and other
distinguished graduates have entered a range of professional
careers with the thorough preparation of the ACSM and Queens
College as their foundation.
