How does CIRCE serve the University?

Extraordinary efforts to preserve and protect nature, particularly within and around mega-cities like New York, are required to counterbalance the pressure for economic development. New York is a prime example of such a mega-city, and as the world’s financial and cultural capital its influence extends across the globe. CIRCE will help the University in work to enhance public awareness of the challenge of maintaining high quality of life in the city while simultaneously preserving the integrity of its environment. The CUNY Institute to Nurture New York’s Nature (CIRCE) will build on the strength of campus-based faculty in many disciplines and will facilitate collaborations among the several CUNY colleges and other institutions in our area.
