This section will be updated often.
- Due 9/4. Read sections 1A, 1B, and pages 18-19 on subspaces in section 1C. Do exercises 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 11 in Section 1A and exercises 1, 4 in Section 1B, and exercise 1, 2 in Section 1C.
- Due 9/11. Finish studying reading Chapter 1 and do exercise 10, 12, 19, 20, 21, 24 in Section 1C
- Due 9/16. Read section 2A. Learn the definitions well. Do exercises 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 17.
- No class Wednesday 9/18. Take a look at a previous math 231 exam I gave: exam1_2015.pdf.
- Due 9/23. Read section 2B. Do Exercise 1, 3, 5.
- Exam on Wednesday, October 2. This will cover sections 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C. You already have a sample exam for chapter 1. In addition to the exercises already assigned, here are some review problems for chapter 2: review2.pdf.

- Due 10/7. Finish studying reading Chapter 2, studying the exam, and be sure you've completed exercises 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 in Section 2C. Also, read section 3.A. Pay attention to the definitions and statements of theorems and do exercise 1.

- Due 10/16: Read section 3A carefully and Do exercise 23 in Section 1C, exercises 5 in Section 2C and exercise 2 in Section 3A. Write up your solutions neatly and I'll collect them on Wednesday 10/16.
- Due 10/23: Read section 3B carefully and Do exercises 10, 11 in Section 3A, and exercises 1, 2 in 3B. Write up your solutions neatly and I'll collect them on Wednesday 10/23.
- Due 10/28: Be sure you have read sections 3A and 3B carefully. Pay attention to the definitions, theorems, and examples. Watch the video for 3A and the video for 3B. Do exercise 14 in section 3A and exercises 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 31 in section 3B. That's a lot of problems, I know, but they're all great exercises and doing them will valuable. Work hard on them this weekend and I'll conduct Monday's class like a problem session. Then, I'll choose a few of these problems and ask you to write up careful solutions and turn them in on Wednesday 10/30.
- Due 10/30. Watch the first video for section 3C before class on Wednesday. It's about 12 minutes long. Also, catch up on homework problems. If you'd like to review, you can check out an exam on chapters 1 and 2 that I gave in the past exam2_F2015.pdf.
- Due 11/4. Do exercises 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 in 3C. Also watch the second video for section 3C and read all of section 3C before class on Monday 11/4. To test your grasp of matrix multiplication, try exercise 12 in 3C.
- Due 11/11. Spend significant time this weekend studying and catching up. Carefully do the problems from exam3_F2015.pdf which covers material about linear maps. Read section 3D and watch the video for 3D.
- Due 11/18: Do exercises 1, 2, 9, 10, 15, 20. Remember, there is an exam on Wednesday, 11/20.

- Due 12/09. Watch the second video for chapter 5B and then read all of 5B. Do problems 4 and 5 in 5B.
- Due 12/09. Watch the video for chapter 5C and then read all of 5C. Do problems 1, 2, 12. Also, take a look at the final exam from Fall 2015: final_2015.pdf.
- The final exam is on Monday, December 16 at 4:00. It covers everything in chapters 1 through 5, except sections 3E and 3F. Here are solutions to the final from 2015: final_2015_answers.pdf.

This is the syllabus for Section 05 of Math 231, which is scheduled to meet in Kiely 412 from 3:45 - 5:35 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The textbook for the course is Linear Algebra Done Right by Sheldon Axler. The book has a webpage http://www.linear.axler.net/ and videos are available http://www.linear.axler.net/LADRvideos.html there.
Also, be aware of the CUNY Academic Calendar. In particular, our class is not scheduled to meet on Monday Septebmer 2, Monday September 30, Wednesday October 9, Monday October 14. In addition, our class will not meet on Wednesday, September 18. We have class on Thursday, September 5 when the University follows a Monday schedule.
Grades and Exams
Grades will be based on two midterm exams (30% each) and one final exam (40%).
- Midterm exam in class on Wednesday, October 2
- Midterm exam in class on Wednesday, November 20
- Final exam on Monday, December 16 from 4:00--6:00 in Kiely 412.
