- Individual brainstorming of project ideas, teams meet and discuss
- Logon to computers using your CAMS account (link to activate your CAMS account if you have not already done so
- Go to our home base at http://tinyurl.com/qsi2009 (This is a shortened version of http://qcpages.qc.cuny.edu/~bmurfin/worldchanging/summer-2009/)
- Login to Science Moodle and introduce yourself by posting a message on the forum.
- Answer the pre-course survey from the link on the forum
- Form teams - post on forum
- Explore worldchanging.org
- Choose worldchanging project topic, brainstorm ideas - post on forum
- Try out your USB Flash drive,
- You will use your flash drive for the following
- You will create a digital portfolio of all of your work. Create a new folder entitled "YourName-Portfolio". You can then copy and save all of the files you create in this program into this folder.
- You can install the following on your usb flash drive:
- Go to sumopaint.com
- Watch Sumopaint in Action first
- Use sumopaint to draw a quick sketch of a computer scientist. Save the file as your-name-cs.gif and then post your image by attaching it to a message on the forum in Science Moodle.

Today's Technology Tool is Windows Movie Maker
Make a video
- Using the Flip Mino video camera, each team should make a short video introducing the topic of your Worldchanging project.
- Take a sheet of paper and draw a vertical line. On the left side, write down what you will do during the video. On the right side, write down what you will say. Rehearse before you record your video.
- Save the video file in your digital portfolio on your usb flash drive.
- View the Windows Movie Maker Tutorials.
- Add a title and transitions to your video along with credits at the end.
11:00 to 12:00
- What is Web 2.0?
- Go to Wordle and select, copy and paste the text from the article at the following url into wordle. Save the resulting image in your digital portfolio. Try using some of the other url's from our computer class in wordle.
- Pick Web 2.0 tools for project
- Go through the Wikispace Help
and Tour
- Set up wikispace for projects
- Teams work on projects - post progress reports on forum
Read one or more of the following:
- Computer Hardware
- Software
- Sign up for a free account with http://quizlet.com.
- Read "How do I get started?" and watch a demo video
- Make a least 10 flash cards. Each flash card should have the name of a computer part on one side with an explanation of its function and how it works on the other. Share your set of flash cards by posting a link to your flash cards on the forum in Science Moodle.
- Here are some cards I created related to how the Internet works. I created a group called qsisummer2009 where we can share our cards. I will send you invitations to this group during class, remind me if you don't get an invitation.
You can use http://webopedia.com to find the definitions of the computer terms for your flash cards.

Today's Technology Tool is Google Sketchup
- Google sketchup should be installed on your computer. You can use Mojopac to install Google sketchup sketchup.google.com on your usb flash drive. If you want to do this, ask the instructor for help.
- View the Google sketchup tutorials first.
- Or, you can use the self-paced tutorials.
- Draw a 3D diagram using Google Sketchup of something related to your group's topic. Save the image in your digital portfolio and upload it to the forum in Science Moodle.
- Work on team projects
- Start your wikispaces.com site
- Post a progress report on the forum in ScienceMoodle
Part 1 - Post a Progress report on the Forum in Science Moodle
Please include the following in your report.
1) The title of your project.
2) The name of your team
3) The names of your team members.
4) The URL (link) to your project on wikispaces.com
5) Goals of your project
6) Describe what you have done so far.
7) Describe what you would like to put on your project wiki.
8) Write down any questions or problems you are having with your project.
Part 2 - Make a poster on a topic related to digital information
Read a topic from the following about Digital Information
Use Sumopaint to make a poster explaining a concept related to data and information. For example, you might want to explain the difference between analog and digital. Save your image and post it as an attachment in the forum.

Google Earth should be installed on your computer. You can also use Mojopac to install Google Earth on your usb flash drive. Ask the instructor for help if you wish to do this.
Work in your teams and make a google earth tour of an important journey.
