    • This is where you will keep all of the materials you create during this course.

Today's Technology Tool is Wikispaces

    Make a wiki
  • login to your Queens Inquiry gmail email account.  You should find an invitation to join our wikispace.  Follow the instructions in the email to join.
  • login using your wikspaces account
  • Go through the Wikispace Help and Tour
  • Plan what you want on your wikispace.  Each person on the team should make at least one wikispace page.  These individual pages should all  be linked to the team homepage. 
  • Set up wikispace for projects
11:00 to 12:00 Homework assignment  - Making and Sharing Digital Flashcards

Read one or more of the following:
  • Sign up for a free account with http://quizlet.com.
  • Read "How do I get started?"  and watch a demo video
  • Make a least 10 flash cards.  Each flash card should have the name of a computer part on one side with an explanation of its function and how it works on the other. Share your set of flash cards by posting a link to your flash cards on the forum in Science Moodle.
  • Here are some cards I created related to how the Internet works.  I created a group called qsisummer2011 where we can share our cards.  I will send you invitations to this group during class, remind me if you don't get an invitation.
You can use http://webopedia.com to find the definitions of the computer terms for your flash cards.

6) Describe what you have done so far.
7) Describe what you would like to put on your project wiki.
8) Write down any questions or problems you are having with your project.

Part 2 - Use Sumopaint to make a poster on a topic related to digital information

Read a topic from the following about Digital Information
Use Sumopaint to make a poster explaining a concept related to data and information.  For example, you might want to explain the difference between analog and digital.  Save your image and post it as an attachment in the forum.

Your first computer program
  • During this course, we will be learning about computer hardware and software.  In this short activity, you are going to write a computer program using a very useful language called Python. 
  • Go to codepad, select Python, and Private, Run code, type in the following lines and click the "submit" button:
#My first Python program
#Hello World.
print("Hello World")
  • What did you see on the screen? 
  • Change the message "Hello World" in the program to something else and submit and run the code again.
  • Do a Google search for python and find out more about Python.  Post what you find on the forum in Moodle.
    • Why is it called Python?
    • Who invented the language?
    • How is it different from other languages?
    • What is Python used for?

Make a video
  • Using the Flip Mino video camera, each team should make a very short video introducing the topic of your Worldchanging project.  
  • Take a sheet of paper and draw a vertical line.  On the left side, write down what you will do during the video.  On the right side, write down what you will say.  Rehearse before you record your video. 
Edit your video
  • View the Windows Movie Maker Tutorials.
  • Add a title and transitions to your video along with credits at the end.
  • Once you are finished, your video will be uploaded to teachertube.com by the instructor.

  • More Python
Homework:  Create a presentation of your project for tomorrow.
  • Go through Lesson 1, "Step-by-Step Tutorial on Prezi Basics" to learn how to use Prezi.
  • Make a presentation for your project using Prezi. Post the link to your team's Prezi presentation on the forum in Moodle.
