SUMMER PROGRAM

This Summer the Hyde Park Neighborhood hosted numerous events. All summer long youth participated in activities such as: visiting the Laney Walker Museum, touring the Phinizy Swamp Natures Park, visiting the Aquatic Center, visiting the Augusta Canal Museum, and watching movies together.  Youth also participated in a summer camp which helped them learn to be good leaders and to set examples.  Many thanks go out to Mrs. Courtright and Mrs. Donalds for their work with the children!

In Summer of 2004, Hyde Park was fortunate to have the World Changers work on several houses throughout the neighborhood-replacing roofs, painting, and building handicap ramps.  They completed 10 roof jobs, Thanks to them for all their efforts!

12 youths from Hyde Park attended Black Youth Institute training at St. Simon’s Island.  As part of that program 4 of the young men traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with senators and congressional representatives to learn how government works and how to make grassroots voices heard.

COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

On August 26, 2004 representatives of the City of Augusta and the Mayor’s Commission on Brownfields came to the Clara Jenkins school to talk about the results of the Goldberg Site cleanup and the next round of environmental work.

SAVANNAH RIVER WEAPONS PROGRAM

In July, HAPIC had the honor of hosting a group of Russian environmental activists for a weekend of cross cultural exchange.

ACTIVISIM

Over the summer of 2004, Hyde Park residents rallied together to make their voices heard and successfully blocked a new junkyard from entering the neighborhood!  Congratulations are in order for their hard work.
