EXTENSION OF PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS
WITH F-1 STATUS


If you will not be graduating from Queens College by the expected date of completion as listed in section 5 of your Queens College I-20 form, you will need to request permission to extend your stay in the US.

Deadline:   You must request an extension 30 days before the expected date of graduation listed on your current I-20 form.

Eligibility:   In order to be able to extend your program you must:
  1. have maintained legal F-1 status.
  2. be currently enrolled for a full-time course.

Application
Procedures:
  The following documents must be submitted to the Office of International Student Services (ISS):
  1. Current Queens College I-20 form
  2. Passport
  3. I-94 (white card stapled in passport)
  4. Completed Form I-538 (obtained at ISS)
  5. Letter explaining why you are unable to complete your program of studies by the date listed on section 5 of your I-20. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NEW EXPECTED DATE OF GRADUATION.
  6. Optional: you may be required to show new evidence of financial support. The International Student Adviser will notify you if this is required in your case.

The International Student Adviser will review your application. If approved, you will receive a new I-20 with the new expected date of graduation. The Immigration and Naturalization Service will be notified of the approved extension of program.
