Matriculation

These requirements are in addition to the general requirements for admission.

1. The applicant must be approved by the departmental committee on Graduate Study in Art History, which has the authority to recommend acceptance or rejection to the Office of Graduate Admissions. This committee may request an interview with the candidate. In making its selection, the committee will consider such factors as breadth and depth of preparation, level of achievement, and the suitability of the applicant's interests to the curriculum.

2. Applicants must have completed a minimum of four courses (normally 12 credits) in Art History beyond the introductory level.

3. Applicants must have completed at least two documented semesters of college-level study of a foreign language, or the equivalent; equivalencies will be determined by the Graduate Committee. Applicants whose native language is not English may satisfy the first foreign language requirement with a TOEFL score of 575 or higher.

4. A student may be conditionally admitted with the stipulation that any deficiencies in preparation must be removed in the first year.
