CUNY Writing Fellows

Queens College has six CUNY Writing Fellows (CWFs) to work with
faculty in all disciplines to help implement the College's Writing
Across the Curriculum Program. CWFs are an integral component of the WAC Program. They are doctoral candidates at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York, most of whom have been adjunct faculty members. Writing Fellows are selected through a rigorous application and campus interview process. Once accepted, CWFs assist in the implementation and expansion of WAC efforts at a particular college in the CUNY system.

The CWFs are involved in CUNY's Writing Fellows Professional
Education Program throughout their terms. QC's CWFs also meet in regular seminars with the WAC Director and Faculty Partners to reflect on teaching and learning and further develop their knowledge and skills as WAC consultants.

The CWFs are well prepared to work with Faculty Partners to assist
faculty interested in learning more about WAC approaches and how they can adopt these methods in their courses and programs. They are the emissaries of Queens College's WAC Program, working with faculty members on an individual basis to design effective writing activities appropriate to the instructor's discipline and approach. They offer student workshops on key challenges in the writing process and meet with individual students, to help them develop a range of key writing skills and strategies, including synthesizing and integrating sources, planning, drafting, and outlining, and developing writing styles appropriate to college-level inquiry.

In addition to all this, CWFs assist with WAC evaluation and
assessment, building and maintaining the WAC web site, writing and
editing Revisions: A Zine on College Writing at Queens College, and the development of WAC Technology Initiatives.
