Welcome Message from the Director

Michael Lipsey

Welcome to the Aaron Copland School of Music website.

The School of Music has a world-class faculty, an outstanding building with our own Concert Hall, and a curriculum that provides excellent preparation for careers in performing, teaching, recording and many other areas in the world of music. An Aaron Copland School of Music degree is an incredible value.

I hope you will spend some time and browse our pages where you will find a great deal of information about our school and about our many programs and degree offerings. Be sure to watch our welcome video where you can hear from our former students as they describe their experience. Browse our YouTube channel and listen to our performances under the Listen and Watch tab. Read about the wide variety of ensembles and chamber groups in which you can participate.

Spend some time with the pages for prospective students, but also look at the materials for current students. You will get a good sense of the requirements of our program and the high expectations we have for our students by looking at the current student handbook and the required courses.

Then check out all the information about our outstanding faculty and their performances and scholarship. Make a note of the name of the advisor for the program you are interested in and contact that person later for more information. Our advisors are always happy to hear from prospective students.

Feel free to call the music department office with any other questions you may have that are not answered on our website. This is also the way to arrange a visit to the Aaron Copland School of Music where you can observe classes, meet with advisors and program coordinators, and tour our facilities. We hope you will see the benefits of joining our close-knit community of musicians and consider applying to our programs.
