Music Minor

The music minor is a program for non-music majors offered to supplement their major or to pursue an interest in music. The School of Music offers two options:

Theory and Literature option:

  • Music 171-172: Sight Singing & Dictation 1-2 (4 credits)
  • Music 173-174: Harmony & Counterpoint 1-2 (6 credits)
  • Music 101: Introduction to the Academic Study of Music (3 hours/3 credits)
  • Two music literature electives (6 credits)
  • Two semesters major ensemble (2 credits)
  • Total: 21 credits

Literature option:

  • Music 1: Introduction to Music (3 credits)
  • Five music literature electives (15 credits)
  • Major ensemble participation (optional)
  • Total: 18 credits

A limited number of electives are given each semester. Each is 3 hr/3 cr. Interested students should consult the Music Minor advisor.
