Fred Trumpy

Fred Trumpy

Fred Trumpy is a drummer, percussionist, chamber musician and devoted teacher. Fred is currently the director of Gamelan Yowana Sari from The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.

Fred has performed with Talujon Percussion Ensemble, Iktus Percussion, TimeTable Percussion, Gamelan Salukat, Ursula Oppens, Face the Music, One World Symphony, Brooklyn Symphony, Merrick Symphony, and performed on the award-winning film score Body/Antibody. In 2010, Fred was selected to work with composer Bright Sheng during his Queens College residency. He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Le Poisson Rouge, Galapagos Art Space, The Stone, Flea Theater, Glasslands, Colden Auditorium, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, The Paramount Theater, Thalia Café, Powerhouse Arena, Death by Audio, New York Electronic Music Festival, CUNY New Music Festival, Weapons of Mass Creation Festival in Cleveland, Ohio, The Fest in Gainesville, Florida and has also toured Europe including England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Austria, and Greece with his band Marine Electric. Fred can be heard on the German label Yo-Yo Records and American labels including Fear Icon Records, Jetsam Flotsam Records, Better Days Will Haunt You Tapes, UnBuckled Records, and Listen Up!

Fred has taught through many organizations, including Midori and Friends, United Nations International School, Cambria Center for the Gifted Child, and The Kupferberg Center for the Arts’ outreach program Cultural After-School Adventures.

Fred graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from The Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. Fred has performed Balinese Gamelan music for 10 years including Gamelan Yowana Sari, Gamelan Dharma Swara, and Salukat from Pengosekan, Bali. Fred has studied with world renown Gamelan composer I Dewa Ketut Alit and Ida Bagus Made Widnyana in Bali, Indonesia.
