Duties of the IA
Ranganathan's first tenant is Books are For Use. Therefore, Information Assistants administer to several duties on a daily basis, but their fundamental role is to maneuver students into the paths of books. Since their duties involve interaction with the student body and faculty of Queens College/C.U.N.Y., they must strive to be gregarious, affable, and inviting.
Operational Protocols of the IA
Information Assistants perform a variety of functions and services for the students of Queens College/C.U.N.Y. The students, faculty, and alumni of Queens College are its real patrons. However, the library does not shy away from providing basic bibliographic service to residents, denizens, and curious Queens citizens.
Copy Machines
There are several copy machines on the 3rd and 2nd floors of the Rosenthal Library for student use. All of them require that students buy copy cards and pay for copies.
Network Printers
There are 2 network printers in the building for student use. One is located on the third floor and the second one is located on the second floor. All of them require students buy copy cards and pay for their copies.
FAQs by IAs
Answers to questions you will not possibly know to things you can not possibly forget for patrons who can never remember.
Oral vs Written
Queen's College/C.U.N.Y. began offering graduate degrees in Library and Information Science in 1968, but the Rosenthal Library has been servicing students since 1988. Therefore, the Rosenthal serves as an informal training venue for Library School students enrolled in the Library and Information Science program.
