How to create a website on the Queens College web server, qcpages.qc.cuny.edu

The following instructions will help you to place a personal web site on Queen's College's web servers.

Before you do this, you should have finished designing your web pages. This process can take place completely offline, i.e. you don't have to be connected to the Internet to design and make your web pages.

OK, let's get started. Here is an overview of the entire process, from start to finish:

  1. Design your web site
  2. Download and install the software applications you need: a web authoring tool, an FTP or SSH application (
    WinSCP) to upload and download files
  3. Make sure that you have an Active Directory account. Make sure you have your username and password
  4. Create the web pages using a web authoring application.
  5. Connect to your qcpages.qc.cuny.edu account using WinSCP or Filezilla (Mac).  Host:  qcpages.qc.cuny.edu  Usernameinstr\yourusername Password:  yourpassword
  6. Upload your web page files to the public_html directory
  7. Visit your web site at
    qcpages.qc.cuny.edu/~username (note that there is a tilde ~ in front of your username)
