Judith Mendenhall

Biographical Information:
Recognized as one of America's most exciting flutists, Judith Mendenhall has earned a reputation as a highly sought-after performer and pedagogue. She has appeared throughout the United Stares, Europe, and the Far East as a recitalist, chamber musician, orchestral soloist, and clinician.

Mendenhall is the principal flutist of the American Ballet Theater Orchestra and of the New York Chamber Symphony under Gerard Schwarz. Each year she is featured several times with the orchestra as a concerto soloist. She has appeared in thirteen nationwide "Musicians from Marlboro" tours; has been guest artist with the Cleveland, Concord, Emerson, and Mendelssohn String Quartets; has been a guest with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for seven seasons; and was a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Aulos Wind Quintet. Her collaborations include those with Paula Robinson, Beverly Sills, Rudolf Serkin, and Kenneth Cooper.

Mendenhall has toured the Far East twice, to Japan as Principal Flutist of the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and to Korea in Solo Recital/Master Class appearances. She has been presented in solo recitals including at the 92nd Street Y in its Distinguished Artists Series, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Schubert Club in St. Paul. As a member of the Music Today Ensemble, she has taken part in many world premiere performances and recordings. Her festival participations have included the Marlboro Music Festival, Spoleto USA and Italy Festivals, and principal flutist of the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Colorado Music Festival, and the Grand Teton Music Festival.

Mendenhall has served on the flute and wind chamber music faculty at the Mannes College of Music, at the Yale School of Music, Stonybrook University, North Texas State University, State University of New York at Purchase, and San Diego State University. Her master classes continue to inspire musicians worldwide. She is on the roster of Affiliate Artists and has recorded for Columbia, Delos, the Marlboro Recording Society, Vox, and CRI.
