Nobuko Amemiya

Nobuko Amemiya

Fields of Study:
Voice Performance

Pianist Nobuko Amemiya has built a reputation as a dynamic and versatile collaborator; her playing is described as “soaring with a thrilling panache, and then with great warmth and suppleness.” (Valley News)  Equally committed to opera, artsong and instrumental repertoires, she traveled three continents to give recitals and concerts with conductors and soloists such as James Conlon, Seiji Ozawa, Brian Priestman, James Dunham, Colin Carr, Robert Spano, and Jeanette Favaro-Reuter.

An enthusiastic advocate of new music, Ms. Amemiya has worked with and performed music by many of today’s leading composers, such as John Harbison, George Crumb, Bright Sheng and George Benjamin.  Her music festival appearances include Festival de Música da Figueira da Foz in Portugal, Britten-Pears Institute at Aldeburgh Music Festival, Palazzo Ricci Akademie für Musik in Montepulciano, Franz Schubert Institute in Baden bei Wien, Lotte Lehmann Akademie, and Tanglewood Music Center where she was awarded Tanglewood Prize, acknowledging the “extraordinary commitment of talent and energy.”  Also active as a dedicated vocal coach, she worked for AIMS in Graz, Opera North, Aspen Music School, IIVA in Italy, and New England Conservatory; and her students sing in major opera houses such as Vienna Staatsoper, Oper Frankfurt, Metropolitan Opera House, Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and San Francisco Opera.

Ms. Amemiya currently works for Manhattan School of Music, Aaron Copland School of Music, Purchase College, Prelude to Performances by Martina Arroyo Foundation, Lyric Opera Studio Weimar and Berlin Opera Academy in Germany.
